Attention span: 8/10 BoulderDash keeps you attention for a while, but the game gets boring after playing it a bit. Controls: 9/10 The controls make sense, but the game makes you push the [more] button before you can continue after you have been killed. Implementation: 10/10 The game is a good rendition of the old arcade game. Overall: 9/10 The game is very good, and only has a few things that need to be changed.
BoulderDash is a game where the object is to collect jewels while avoidiong having the character smashed by a boulder or killed otherwise. If the character walks under a boulder or walks by one a certain way then the boulder will drop until it hits another boulder, a wall, a space that has not been walked over, or the character. The graphics are very good, although not greyscale. BoulderDash has four caves from which to choose from, and each of those caves has five levels in it. The levels are very large, and you are required to get a certain number of jewels and get to the exit before time runs out. An added feature is that the character and the jewels are animated, so that even if you don't push anything, for example, the character blinks and taps his foot.
There are only a few problems with this game. The controls are pretty good, although when the character dies, the program doesn't seem to reckognize it until you push the [more] button, which gets a little annoying. The screen also flickers a bit as you scroll though the levels, but this is because it is a tile based game, so it doesn't have smooth scrolling. Also, there is no overhead map that shows the whole course rather than just what is on the screen at the time, but this makes the game more difficult. |
